The world cup was held in Germany in this month. However, I don't see any devoted fans of some countries, who singing their anthems or watching the games on the road in Vanconver, as people in Japan do.
Come to think of it, commercials and News programs don't take up the world cup games all that. I have heard that people in U.S and Canada has no so much interest in Soccer games, because they are not exciting.
According to a news paper, the reason is that if they go and come back during the games, they can not miss the goal scene. It's very simple and satisfactory.
Instead of that, hockey is very popular among Canadian. Canada is known for the cradle of hockey and the sports have a high polularity among even young people now. Besides, if they withdraw their gaze, they may miss the goal scene!
which sports is your favoriate, hockey or soccer?
The Canadians are too busy playing hockey to care about soccer, eh! I don’t think they ever managed to field a team at a soccer world cup tournament.
The Americans are all crazy about baseball, so they don’t much care about soccer either, although they do manage to participate in the world cup every once in a while.
It’ll be interesting to see how baseball and soccer will develop in Japan in terms of popularity — for a completely uneducated guess I’d say that baseball is still the most popular spectator sport but that soccer is catching up.

you are right, because there has been not populality in Japan before FIFA WORLD CUP 2002, which was held in Japan.
After the soccer festibal, Japanese was interested in Soccer games of Premier league, in England, and whatever.
Anyway, As for me, it is better to watch the results of the soccer games, after they have been done! that’s time-consuming
